Abandoned cart and browse remarketing in Perfit: why they don't go out to everyone

Perfit's automations for Tiendanube only send if the contact is identified. What that means, why most of your visitors aren't, and how to get your automations to reach more people.

You turned on Abandoned Cart ("Carrito abandonado"), Visit Remarketing ("Remarketing de visita") and Visitor Recovery ("Recupero de visitantes") in Perfit. Your Tiendanube store gets traffic. But when you look at how many emails go out per day, the number doesn't add up against how many people come in, look at products and leave. Before you change the design or raise the coupon, there's a Perfit rule worth understanding.

The rule: the contact has to be identified

In its article "Automations para Tiendanube", Perfit's help center says it word for word: the automation only sends if the contact is identified. And it lists the ways that happens:

  • the contact has an active session in the store,
  • the contact logged in at some point in the past using the same browser,
  • the contact filled in their details on the first step of checkout,
  • the contact reached the store by clicking an email sent by Perfit.

If none of those four is true, the visitor can look at ten products and fill the cart: to Perfit, they don't exist. This applies to the whole recovery family: the abandoned cart variants (with coupon, extended, with cross-selling) and the browse ones (visit remarketing, visitor recovery).

Why most of your visitors aren't identified

Look at that list through your real customer's eyes. Almost nobody creates an account to buy from a small store. Most never get to fill in their details at checkout: they abandon before that. And a click on a Perfit email only identifies people who are already on your list and happened to come in that way.

On top of that, the identification you do get gets lost:

  • "Using the same browser" is the key part of the rule. Your customer opened your email on their laptop, but today they come in from an ad on their phone. Different browser, another anonymous visitor.
  • Instagram's browser has its own cookies. Everyone who taps your ad or your link in bio arrives without the identification they had in Chrome or Safari.
  • Safari has capped cookies created from JavaScript at seven days since Intelligent Tracking Prevention 2.1, as WebKit announced in 2019. Anyone who comes back in the second week comes back as a stranger.
  • Blockers can shut off the tracking script, and that visit never reaches Perfit.

The result: your automations work perfectly for a small share of the people who abandon, and for everyone else nothing happens. No dashboard warns you, because an email that never fired leaves no trace.

How to get more out of your Perfit automations

  • Avoid double sends. If you use Perfit to recover carts, turn off Tiendanube's automatic abandoned cart email. Both Perfit and Tiendanube explain how in their help centers.
  • Turn on the Perfit form. A form with a concrete reason to leave an email (first purchase, shipping, new arrivals) turns anonymous visitors into contacts before they reach checkout.
  • Use the full series. Don't stop at Abandoned Cart: Visit Remarketing and Visitor Recovery cover people who looked and left without adding anything. They're the ones that depend most on identification, so it's worth measuring them separately.
  • Send campaigns with product links. Every click on a Perfit email identifies the contact on that browser. A weekly campaign with clear links is also a round of identification.
  • Measure the gap. In Tiendanube, under Sales > Abandoned carts, count one week's carts. Compare them with your abandoned cart automation's sends that same week. What's missing is people who abandoned and received nothing.

What Escalafy's Perfit Pixel does

2x Perfit revenue with our pixel.

The Escalafy pixel is first-party and processes every event server-side, so it doesn't depend on a script a blocker can shut off or on a cookie Safari deletes after 7 days. When someone has already given you their email —in a purchase, at checkout or in a pop-up— we recognize them for much longer and across many more visits, and we send every complete event to Perfit through the official integration: product viewed, cart, checkout started and purchase, with the identified contact and the product data.

The same automations you already have start going out to many more people: more abandoned carts recovered and, on average, double the email revenue.

Escalafy doesn't send emails or add contacts who haven't given you consent: it only identifies people who already gave you their email. Perfit keeps applying its consent and frequency rules. It's live in about five minutes, with no developer and without touching your theme.

Try it on your own store

Duplicate your abandoned cart automation, trigger it with the Escalafy event and compare the two after one or two weeks: how many emails went out and how much they sold.
