If 1,000 people visit your store today, between 950 and 970 leave without Klaviyo or Perfit knowing who they are. For every one of them, your abandoned cart, browse abandonment and welcome flows exist but never fire. Visitor identification turns those anonymous profiles into contacts with an email address and routes them into the right flow — doubling the revenue your email channel generates without touching a single existing flow.
Why are 97% of your visitors anonymous to your email tool?
Klaviyo and Perfit identify a visitor when they can match them to an existing profile in their database. That happens in exactly two situations: the visitor clicked a link in one of your emails (the link carries a tracking parameter that identifies them the moment they land on your store), or the visitor completed a subscription form on your site.
All the traffic arriving from paid ads, organic search, social media or word of mouth — without having clicked a link in one of your emails — is anonymous. That person can browse 20 products, add two to their cart, and leave without Klaviyo knowing they were there. The abandoned cart flow is active in your account but has nobody to send to.
In a typical store, paid traffic accounts for 40%–70% of visits. Most of that traffic is anonymous. The abandoned cart email that doesn't send is almost never a configuration problem — it's an identification problem.
What happens to an abandoned cart flow when the visitor is anonymous?
Nothing. The flow waits. The platform knows there was an abandoned cart because the event reached the system, but it has no email address to send the message to. The flow is correctly configured, the logic is sound, the product is relevant — the only missing piece is a recipient.
The most common misdiagnosis: the team reviews the flow and it looks correct. What they don't see is the ratio between abandoned carts with an identified profile versus anonymous abandoned carts. In most stores, more than 80% of abandoned carts are anonymous. The flows are fine — they're missing people.
What's the difference between capturing an email and identifying a visitor?
A subscription pop-up captures emails from people who choose to give it to you in that moment. That's valuable, but it only reaches 1%–5% of traffic on average. Visitor identification does something different: when someone already in your database visits your store — even from a new device or a different browser — the pixel recognizes them and links them to their existing profile, without them having to do anything.
| Mechanism | Who does it capture? | Typical % of traffic |
|---|---|---|
| Pop-up / on-site form | New visitors who agree to subscribe | 1%–5% |
| Click from email | Subscribers who arrive via one of your emails | 2%–8% |
| Pixel identification | Existing subscribers arriving from any channel | 10%–25% additional |
Identification doesn't replace the form — it stacks on top. While the form captures new visitors, the pixel identifies existing subscribers who arrived from paid or organic channels and would otherwise be anonymous.
The number that matters: 2x. Stores that implement visitor identification on top of a well-configured Klaviyo or Perfit setup double the revenue their email channel generates. Not because the flows changed — the flows were already there. Because they now reach twice as many people: those who identified through the form plus those the pixel recognized. The database didn't grow — it got activated.
How does visitor identification work with the Escalafy pixel?
The Escalafy pixel runs on Tiendanube and Shopify. When it detects that an anonymous visitor matches a profile in your database — through a first-party cookie, a parameter from a previous email or a session identifier — it marks that profile as active and sends Klaviyo or Perfit the corresponding event: product view, cart add or checkout started.
The abandoned cart flow already exists in your account. The only thing that changes is that it now has a recipient. The email goes out. The revenue comes in.
Unlike other tracking tools, the Escalafy pixel doesn't just identify the visitor for email: it also records the session with the real margin of what they were looking at. If it identifies someone with a product carrying a 40% margin in their cart, the system knows that cart is worth more than average. See how it works at Klaviyo integration, and the full email pixel overview.
When does Klaviyo work better, and when does Perfit?
Both platforms support visitor identification, but they serve different use cases:
| Klaviyo | Perfit | |
|---|---|---|
| Identification via email click | ✓ Native | ✓ Native |
| Identification via external pixel | ✓ With integration | ✓ With integration |
| Abandoned cart flows | ✓ | ✓ |
| Browse abandonment flows | ✓ | ✓ |
| Where it dominates | Global, primarily Shopify | LATAM, primarily Tiendanube |
If you're on Tiendanube and sell primarily in LATAM, Perfit has a smoother native integration. If you're on Shopify or need advanced segmentation, Klaviyo has more options. See the details in how Klaviyo identifies visitors and in Perfit for abandoned cart and browse remarketing.
Frequently asked questions
Does visitor identification comply with privacy laws?
Yes. Identification only applies to people already in your database who have given their consent to receive communications. No profiles are created from data about strangers. The pixel recognizes someone you already know.
Does it work if the visitor clears their cookies?
Partially. First-party cookie identification can be lost with certain browser configurations. That's why the Escalafy pixel uses multiple identification signals: parameters from previous emails, session identifiers and matches when the visitor fills in a checkout field. The combination improves identification rates even in browsers with strict cookie restrictions.
Do I need to change my Klaviyo or Perfit flows?
No. The pixel adds recipients to the flows you already have. The flow logic, templates and sending frequency don't change. Only the number of people entering the flow changes.
Is the Escalafy email pixel included in the main plan?
No. It's a separate product with its own pricing at pixel pricing. It runs on Tiendanube and Shopify, and is independent of the Escalafy analytics dashboard.
