How to tell if your Meta Ads agency actually works (or if they're just filling your head with numbers)

Your agency sends you a tidy ROAS every month, but your bank account isn't growing. Here's how to tell whether your agency generates real profit or just generates reports.

Your agency sends you a tidy report every month. 4x ROAS. 3% CTR. Low CPC. Everything looks fine. But when you look at your bank account, the numbers don't add up. Are you making money or not? That question has an answer. And most agencies don't want you to know it.

The problem: agency metrics aren't business metrics

Meta Ads agencies report ROAS, impressions, clicks, CTR and cost per result. It all sounds good. The problem is that none of those metrics tells you whether your business is making or losing money.

A 4x ROAS in Meta means that for every $1 spent on ads, Meta "attributes" $4 in sales. Sounds great. But Meta takes credit for 30% to 50% of sales that would have happened anyway — organic, direct, email, word of mouth. Your real ROAS might be 2x. Or 1.5x. Or 0.8x.

Add the costs the agency doesn't account for: Mercado Pago fees, shipping costs, returns, the agency's own fee, the product cost. A 4x ROAS with all those costs included can be a business that loses money.

Real case: Crafy

A brand was paying its agency $180,000/month. The reports showed tidy ROAS and steady growth. When they connected Escalafy and cross-checked the real data, they found that $300,000/month in ad spend wasn't converting. They tripled revenue on half the ad budget after cutting those campaigns.

Signs your agency isn't generating real profitability

  • They send reports with Meta metrics but never cross them with your real margin
  • They never talk about profit, only ROAS and CPR
  • They don't know which products are profitable and which aren't
  • When you ask "how much did I make this month?", they can't answer
  • They explain bad months with "the algorithm changed" or "it's the slow season"
  • Their metrics go up but your bank account doesn't

What you should be able to ask your agency

A good Meta Ads agency should be able to answer these questions:

  • What's the real ROAS (Blended ROAS) including organic sales?
  • Which campaigns generate positive profit and which generate losses?
  • What's the real acquisition cost per customer, with every cost included?
  • Which products are profitable to push with paid ads?
  • How much of Meta's attribution is real vs. organic?

If your agency can't answer that, it's not that they're bad. It's that they don't have the data. They have Meta's data. Not your business's data.

How Escalafy gives you the real answer

Escalafy cross-references your Meta Ads data with your real sales from Tiendanube, Shopify or Mercado Libre in real time. It doesn't use Meta's attribution — it uses the sales that actually happened.

The result: you see exactly how much profit each campaign generated, with every cost subtracted — agency fee, Mercado Pago, shipping, product cost. Not an estimate. The real number.

  • True ROAS by campaign: without inflated attribution
  • Profit by campaign: real sales minus real costs
  • Alerts for money-losing campaigns: you know which ones to turn off today
  • Agency vs. real results comparison: so your conversations are backed by evidence

The conversation that changes everything

With Escalafy, the monthly meeting with your agency stops being "look at these pretty numbers" and becomes "here are the real results, how do we improve them?".

Serious agencies love this — they get concrete data to prove their work. The ones that live off vanity metrics, not so much.

You don't need to switch agencies. You need the real data to know whether your agency is generating profit or just generating reports.
