How to handle a fixed cost whose amount changes month to month

Don't create a new cost every time: add rates to the same cost.

You don't need to create a new cost every time the amount changes. On the same fixed cost you can keep adding rates with different effective dates.

Use it to update an employee's salary, a change in your logistics rate, rent or any expense that varies.

How to do it

Open the cost you already created and set an end date; that lets you add a new rate. The new rate is counted from the day after that end date.

About recurrence

  • With a recurrence and no end date, it repeats indefinitely.
  • With a recurrence and an end date, it repeats until that date.
  • With no recurrence, it's only counted within the date range you enter.

Always working on the same cost has an advantage: you keep the full history of that expense in one place, with its different amounts per period. Additional costs can also be grouped into categories.
