Product cost is the foundation of your real margin. When you connect your store, Escalafy shows you all your products with their selling price so you can enter the cost of each one.
Three ways to add costs
- Manual (one by one): ideal if you have few products.
- Bulk edit: select several similar products (for example, all your t-shirts) and assign them the same cost at once.
- Import Excel: download an Excel file, fill it in with your costs and upload it again. You can do it at the product level (one cost per product) or at the variant level (a different cost for each variant, color or size).
Which currency you enter the cost in
Besides how you enter it, you can choose the cost type for each product:
- Local currency of your store (for example, $10,500).
- US dollars (for example, USD 10). We convert it using the rate you have set in Settings > Exchange rates.
- Percentage of the product's selling price. Useful if you work with an even margin across your whole catalog, or if you don't have the exact unit cost yet and want to start with an approximation.
Your whole catalog doesn't need to use the same method: you can have one product in dollars, another in local currency and another as a percentage.
Recommendation: enter the cost including VAT (your final cost). If you already have your costs in Shopify or Tiendanube, you can sync them automatically with the toggle.
How are bundles and combos handled?
Selling prices for offers and bundles are picked up automatically. In product costs you set the cost of one unit of the product involved, and Escalafy multiplies it by the quantities in each order. If your combos or promos are inventory items (they appear in "Settings > Products"), enter the cost of the products involved.
