When you install the Escalafy Pixel, the tracking you already had keeps running. If you don't remove it, events get sent twice and your numbers — and Meta's — end up inflated.
Old tracking can live in two places: scripts pasted into your theme code (Meta, Google, TikTok) and app embeds from other apps that do tracking or analytics.
1. Clean up theme scripts
In Shopify, go to Online Store → Themes, pick your current theme and open Edit code. Use the search (the magnifying glass) to look for these patterns:
- Meta:
facebook.com/tr,Meta Pixel Code, or your Pixel ID itself (you'll find it in Meta Events Manager). - Google:
gtag,Google Tag Manager, or your tag ID. - Other tracking apps you installed by hand at some point.
When you find a script, delete it entirely.
The detail everyone forgets: while you have unsaved changes, Shopify shows a small black dot next to the file. Click Save until the dot disappears — otherwise, you haven't deleted anything.
If you switch between several themes, check the others too. An old script in a theme you publish again later brings the problem back.
2. Review app embeds
Go back to Themes, click Customize and open the App embeds section. There:
- Make sure the Escalafy embed is turned on.
- Turn off any other app that installs a Meta, Google or TikTok pixel, or that does its own tracking.
- Subscription apps, pop-ups and similar don't need to be touched: they don't duplicate events.
Click Save when you're done.
3. Turn off data sharing in the Meta app
If you have the Meta app installed in Shopify, turn off the customer data sharing option. If you don't, Meta receives events through two paths and your numbers get inflated.
Done
With the scripts removed, the embeds turned off and Meta data sharing disabled, go back to Escalafy and mark the step as done.
