Why are units sold higher than orders?

Escalafy shows the sum of the quantities on each order line, not the number of orders. If a customer buys 3 products in a single order, that adds up to 3 units but it's still 1 order.

If you see that "Units sold" in Escalafy is higher than the number of orders for the same period, it's not an error — it's exactly what it should show.

What does each metric count?

Orders is the number of orders in the period: each completed purchase counts as 1, no matter how many products it includes.

Units sold is the sum of the quantities (qty) on each product line in those orders. If an order includes 3 units of an item, that order adds 3 units sold.

Example: 50 orders with an average of 1.8 units per order = 90 units sold. The number of orders is still 50.

When does this usually happen?

  • When you sell products customers tend to buy in quantity (apparel by size, accessories, consumables).
  • When a Mercado Libre listing groups more than one item on the same order line.
  • When you offer volume discounts and the customer builds an order with several items.

Why is it useful to see both metrics?

Having both numbers helps you understand buying behavior:

  • Orders tells you how many customers bought.
  • Units sold tells you how many products left your inventory.

If units sold are consistently higher than orders, it means your customers tend to buy more than one product per purchase — a good sign for your average order value.
