Payment fees are one of the costs that erode your margin the most without you noticing. Escalafy pulls most of them automatically; here's what you need to know by platform.
Payment fees in Tiendanube
They're 100% automatic for most payment gateways. Escalafy pulls Tiendanube's per-transaction fee and the fees from the main gateways (Pago Nube, Mercado Pago, etc.), including installments. The fees we pull already include VAT, meaning they're the final cost. You don't have to configure anything.
Exception — Uala and GoCuotas: these gateways don't send us their data automatically. If you use either of them, send support the fee percentage they charge you, and we'll configure it manually in your account.
Payment fees in Shopify
Here you do have to manually enter the transaction fee Shopify charges for using a payment method other than Shopify Payments (it's usually between 0.7% and 2% depending on your plan). For Mercado Pago, you connect it from Integrations and everything is pulled automatically, including installments and fund release delays.
Key difference: in Tiendanube, Mercado Pago is pulled automatically without connecting anything. In Shopify, you have to connect Mercado Pago for us to pull it.
Fees in Mercado Libre
Also 100% automatic: sales fee, installment fees, shipping and rebates. The only thing you enter manually is the tax percentage on your Mercado Libre revenue.
How to set up your store's taxes
Taxes are set up as a single estimated percentage on total revenue. You don't need to separate VAT and gross receipts tax (IIBB): you enter an average.
The exact percentage varies from store to store depending on your tax situation. A good practice is to net input VAT against output VAT (not necessarily the full VAT rate, because you deduct what you already paid on your purchases) and add IIBB on top. The simplest approach is to enter an estimated average.
- Monotributo (simplified regime): you normally enter only IIBB as the store tax.
- Responsable Inscripto (VAT-registered): you add VAT + IIBB; take what you paid in taxes on the previous month's revenue and enter that approximate percentage.
Custom payments
If you receive offline payments (collection agencies, transfers outside the payment gateways), you can enter their fee and, if applicable, their taxes. It's optional: if you don't have payments outside the gateways, you don't need to set it up.
Does Shopify Payments charge a transaction fee?
No. Shopify Payments doesn't charge an additional transaction fee. The transaction fee you set up in Escalafy only applies when you use an external payment method (for example, Mercado Pago in Argentina). If you use Shopify Payments, its fees are pulled automatically with no extra charges.
How do Mercado Pago and Mercado Libre deduct IIBB on each sale?
Both platforms deduct gross receipts tax (IIBB) automatically sale by sale, depending on your tax situation in the destination province. If you sell to provinces where you're not registered for IIBB, they deduct it automatically. You can check it in each sale's detail.
Take the month's total IIBB and divide it by your revenue to calculate the average percentage. Use it as a reference to set up the store tax in Escalafy so it's reflected in your real profitability.
I added a custom payment method but it doesn't show up to configure the fee
The setting appears once the first paid order with that method comes in. You have two options: wait for a real order to arrive, or create a draft order in your store (Shopify or Tiendanube) assigned to that payment method so it shows up in Escalafy right away.
